History

Gene Analysis Service was founded in August 1998 and started its service
activity in July 1999. To ensure the highest level of quality and
service, our quality management system in accordance with DIN EN
ISO 9001 was implemented in an early stage. The first external
certification was in 2001. With our molecular biological
services like custom sequencing or RFLP analysis, we could
convince a still growing number of local and international
customers.
Fast medical mutation screening of the lung surfactant associated genes
SP-A, SP-B and GM/CSF-R was one of our earliest services. Keeping
track with the scientific development in this field, SP-C (since
2001) and ABCA3 screening (since 2005) followed.
Today our portfolio of molecular biological tests has been expanded by 11
screening tests for partly very rare genetic diseases like
CADASIL, Pseudoxanthoma eleasticum or Juvenile Hyaline
Fibromatosis.
Presently, satisfied customers in more than 26 countries on 5 continents
take advantage of our services.

Focus
|
Our primary activity is the development of molecular biological methods for
the quick analysis of genetic markers in humans. We have specialized in
rare hereditary diseases that require selected exon sequencing or
complete gene mutation screening.
Whether during the development of new genetic tests or in setting up
of custom genetic tests, we consider it important to keep in contact
with clinical professionals and scientists in the field.
We offer our clients a complete, competent and flexible service,
from the isolation of nucleic acids and the specific amplification of
DNA fragments, to the ready-to-publish DNA sequence. |

Dr. Alfred C. Looman, a molecular biologist and biochemist has extensive
basic and applied research experience including gene technology,
microbiology and biotechnology. After graduating in biology with
focus on biochemistry and genetics at the
State University of Leiden, postgraduate studies at the Berlin
Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics and the PhD study at the Dept. of Biochemistry of
the Leiden University extended the basic scientific experience.
Post-doctoral research projects in the field of applied yeast
biotechnology and human molecular biology led the way to the founding of
a molecular biological service company:
-
(1985-1993) “Foreign expression of proteins in yeast”.
Hüls Chemie Forschungsgesellschaft,
Berlin.(1994-1998) “Molecular biology of lung
surfactant proteins”.
Dept. of Neonatology,
Charité University Hospital, Berlin.
He
is president and managing director of Gene Analysis Service GmbH since
1998. |
